Why Get Political?
Micah answers why he is running for office.
Why am I running for Decatur City Council? The answer is simple.
I want to help make Decatur a place for people to love and not leave.

For many years, the population of Decatur, IL has been declining drastically. This decline is due to several factors such as job market decline, increasing taxes, and policies that frustrate the contributing citizens of our community.

I want to be a voice for tax-paying people with common sense. I want to see our city thrive again. Of course, it's a "play" on my last name, but I want to be a Ray of hope for Decatur.
What Guides You?
Micah answers how he will vote/lead as a Councilman.
A City Council position is non-partisan. I'm not running for this office based on party-line dogma. Rather, I would like to share what will be the foundation of my decision making should I have the honor of serving you for the next four years. Before each City Council vote, I will research the opportunity and then ask myself these three questions.

1. Will this opportunity make our contributing citizens want to stay in Decatur?
2. Could this opportunity possibly attract new contributing citizens to our city?
3. Have I sought counsel from community members, experts, and God?

Please, let me explain.
I see our city's population decline as a major threat to our individual increased taxation. Decatur needs community services that we should all rightfully fund. However, as the contributing number of citizens decreases, the square footage of our city stays the same. We still have to have water, police, fire, etc, and, when people leave Decatur, the burden of those costs are now redistributed among those of us who remain. This, in turn, makes even more of our friends and neighbors consider raising their families elsewhere. We have to stop hemorrhaging tax-paying citizens, we have to attract new ones to our great city, and I hope to help do so with as much wisdom as I can garner.
